Analytical System
Answers Sample Queries
Waters’ DART QDa System with
LiveID is a direct-from-sample analytical system that allows laboratories to answer questions such
as: is the sample authentic?
Has the composition of the
sample changed? Is sample
quality good or bad? Featuring
the LiveID software platform,
the system performs real-time
sample recognition and verifies
sample authenticity or adulter-
ation. Direct Analysis in Real Time
(DART) is a direct and rapid analysis technique
for various sample types with minimal sample preparation and
no requirement for a chromatographic separation. The source
directs heated, ionized gas at the surface of
the sample between DART interface and
the QDa detector where the ionized mole-
cules are detected. The LiveID software
provides the user with the capability to
train and validate multivariate statis-
tical models using the chemical profile
obtained from the DART QDa
analysis. The LiveID
models can be used
to classify the iden-
tity of unknown
samples generating
easy-to-interpret results in near
real time and a simple yes/no
answer in seconds.

Detector Features Advanced Sensors
The Thermo Scientific Lumis EBSD detector
incorporates a large-format CMOS sensor
to enable higher sample throughput, higher
resolution measurements and more precise
phase identification, as compared to previous genera-
tion CCD detectors. The CMOS sensor provides enhanced sensi-
tivity at high frame rates due to a high dynamic range, increased
quantum efficiency and improved noise management. Scientists
and researchers in metallurgy, geophysics and other disciplines can
use detector to identify crystallographic phases and grain proper-
ties, as well as to monitor structural transformations in samples.

Density Meters, Refractometers Require
Minimal Training
METTLER TOLEDO’s Excellence
instruments permit the measure-
ment of the density or refractive
index of liquids as well as their
derivatives, such as Brix, alco-
hol, and many more. Extremely
accurate measurements are now
possible with up to six decimal places in density and up to five in
refractive index. Automatic bubble detection and live video view
and playback of the density measurement process ensure trust-
worthy results. Additionally, connection to LabX PC software
ensures full traceability and compliance with 21 CFR Part 11.
